The King of Rock and Roll is born.
The making of Elvis, behind the scenes.
Find yourself Really close and personal with the Rock and Roll King. This collection brings together more than 300 photographs of Elvis from the famous portfolio of Alfred Wertheimer. Extraordinary with their intimacy and unparalleled in scope, these images immortalize the young man in the process of making history.
“Elvis who?” was the photographer's response when in 1956, an RCA Victor publicist proposed him to photograph an up-and-coming star from Memphis. Little did he know that this would be the dream job of his life: Only 21 years old, Elvis Presley was as we now know, to become the legend.
Trailing the King like his shadow, Wertheimer took more or less 3,000 photographs of him that every year, creating a portrait of a man poised on the brink of superstardom.
Available as a standard edition, The King and the Birth of Rock and Roll collects Alfred Wertheimer’s most remarkable Elvis shots from that year, along with a selection of his historic pictures of Elvis being shipped off to an army base in Germany. Each chapter is illustrated with a Hatch Show Print poster, one of the oldest letterpress print shops in America, which created many Elvis posters in the '50s.
